Theory of change and its relation to education systems

Room to Read seeks to influence public policies and practices that focus appropriate resources toward delivering, at scale, literacy outcomes and life skills that promote gender equality. Such policies aim to upskill and support teachers, increase family and community engagement, improve the quality and inclusiveness of curricula, books, and learning material, encourage continuous assessment to inform system design and improvements, and foster opportunities for learning and growth outside the classroom.[2] By pursuing these aims, Room to Read hopes to create communities in which all children are fulfilled and have the necessary skills to make positive change and contribute equitable solutions to the most pressing challenges—in their families, communities and the world.

Room to Read's work relates to education systems in that they seek to work with education stakeholders to integrate their programming into existing systems, rather than building parallel structures. Room to Read ultimately hopes to affect change at scale, and acknowledges that this can only be done in partnereship with government.
